Dmitry Shucharin is a Russian historian and essayist, born in Moscow in 1960.
A 1982 graduate of the History Faculty of Moscow State University, Department of Medieval History, he completed his doctoral thesis in 1992 on Germany during the Reformation.
He is the author of several books, including Two Reforms: Essays on the History of Germany and Russia.
Beginning in the 1990s, his articles appeared in numerous Russian media outlets, including Nezavisimaya Gazeta and the newspaper Segodnia. From 1998 to 2004, he worked for the Fund for Effective Politics (EFF), headed by Gleb Pavlovsky. He subsequently became a vocal critic of Vladimir Putin's regime.
In 2017, he published Russian Totalitarianism: Freedom Here and Now.
